Acupuncture

Untitled4.jpgAcupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) technique where sterile needles are inserted at particular points on the body. The technique is based on a complete and comprehensive theory, which most importantly outlines the flow of ‘Qi’, translated as ‘life force’ or ‘energy’, circulating with in channels called meridians.

Illnesses and various symptoms are the result of the Qi flow in the meridians being disrupted, blocked, or unbalanced. Acupuncture therapy aims to correct the flow of qi, thereby restoring the equilibrium of the body.

Acupuncture treatment is part of a natural medical practice, which includes Chinese herbal therapy, dietary regiments based on food energetics, cupping and moxibution therapy. Depending on the condition, your therapist may recommend incorporating additional therapies.

How long and how often?

Depending on the condition, age, general health, and individual response to acupuncture, length and frequency of acupuncture treatments will vary. Generally, acute problems will require less treatment for healing, while chronic ailments will require a more frequent and prolonged sets of treatments for relief.

It is common for treatments to be recommended 1-3 times a week for the start of the treatments to reach optimal response in the body, then once a week or every other week to maintain balance.

What can acupuncture therapy treat?

The concept of ‘Qi’, the foundational concept in TCM is hard to reconcile with western biomedical theories, however the practice of acupuncture and other forms of TCM techniques has been proven through controlled trials to be effective treatments for a great number of diseases, symptoms and conditions. For instance, World Health Organization lists these conditions as having effectiveness with acupuncture therapy:

Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.
